Lake Superior Nostalgia
When I came upon this scene at Sand Hills Lighthouse, located near Ahmeek, Michigan, on Lake Superior, I knew it would make a beautiful image. A background peek of Lake Superior accents the old building and boat. A tweak with editing tools helped create just the nostalgic mood I was looking for. This image was accepted into ArtPrize 2017, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Autumn Blazes
This spectacular maple tree never disappoints! It’s located along the Curley Lewis Highway between M-123 and Bay Mills in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I used some creative editing to emphasize the overcast skies in contrast to the tree’s blazing ruddy colors. I plan to do more of this type of photo editing in the future, as I find it a new creative outlet for my photography. I hope you, the viewer, will like it!
The Gales of October
One of the most fascinating aspects of Lake Superior is her ability to go from placid, calm waters to those that seem to be driven by fury. The waves on October 20, 2018 were massive and dynamic! Driving snow added to the dramatic effect of the day, and stung my face as I captured this image.
The Waves of October
Lake Superior’s autumn mood was showing on this October day along Au Train Bay. When the season changes to autumn, and then to winter, I find myself outdoors with my camera even more often than during the spring and summer months!
Alger County Autumn Color
This wetland with its dead trees, has a background of stunning color! I’ve always found myself drawn to wet areas and their variability. Note how the dead trees act as a foreground complement to the colorful hillside.
Scott Falls in October
This diminutive and waterfall is right along M-28 near Au Train, Michigan. Although relatively small, this falls has a large fan base of those who find it one of the prettiest waterfalls in the area.
Laughing Whitefish Falls in October
This Alger County waterfall is spectacular in any season, but autumn color complements it perfectly! A peaceful trek in is always rewarded with, first the roar, and then the view of this falls. The swirling water above the falls has a hypnotic effect!
Cabin Fever
In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the winters are as harsh as they are long. I captured this image while snowshoeing. I think “Cabin Fever” is an appropriate title, don’t you?
The Calm After the Storm
Valentine’s Day 2015 brought with it a tremendous blizzard to the northern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The day after it ended, the sky was blue and the air was calm. I captured this image of the frozen and snowy Lake Superior shoreline while on a snowshoe trek on the ice.
